Shuttles are cheap transports, affording some protection and considerable speed over a Pod. They also have very small cargoholds (10m3), small signature radii and can't fit any modules.

Shuttles were originally introduced as pilots could not undock in their pods. CCP has considered removing shuttles, but they still see significant use in Empire.

In 0.0, use a cheap frigate instead of a shuttle since shuttles, like pods, are guaranteed to die in bubbled gate camps.
