Sleipnir
Sleipnir
Name: Sleipnir

Hull: Cyclone

Role: Field Command Ship

Command ships are engineered specifically to wreak havoc on a battlefield of many. Sporting advanced command module interfaces, these vessels are more than capable of turning the tide in large engagements. Field command ships are geared more towards out-and-out combat than their fleet command counterparts, though both ships can hold their own in battle.

Developer: Boundless Creation

Boundless Creation's ships are based on the Brutor tribe's philosophy of warfare: simply fit as much firepower onto your ship as possible. Defense systems and electronics arrays therefore tend to take a back seat to sheer annihilative potential.

[edit] Overview

The Sleipnir is a Minmatar command ship, in particular a field command battlecruiser. The field command ships, while technically not 'heavy assault' battlecruisers, are much more similar to that role than the fleet command ships, with large bonuses to its offensive weaponry and no bonuses to warfare links (it can still run one link, like all battlecruiser-based hulls).

The Sleipnir gains firepower and tanking over the Vagabond, however it loses speed and agility and is more expensive. A Hurricane is usually a better choice.

[edit] Bonuses

Battlecruiser Skill Bonus:

  • 5% bonus to Medium Projectile Turret rate of fire
  • 7.5% bonus to Shield Booster effectiveness per level

  • 99% reduction in Warfare Link module CPU need

[edit] Fittings

[edit] Anti-support/Sniping Sleipnir

This is a Serious Business Fleet fitting
High
7 x 720mm Howitzer Artillery II
Mids
1 x 10mn MicroWarp Drive II (Y-T8 Overcharged MWD if you lack AWU V)
1 x Large Shield Booster II
1 x Sensor Booster II
1 x Tracking Computer II
1 x Invulnerability Field II (Or a Stasis Webifier II)
Lows
3 x Gyrostabilizer II
1 x Reactor Control Unit II
1 x Tracking Enhancer II
Rigs
1 x Anti-kinetic Screen Reinforcer I
1 x Polycarbon Engine Housing (Or an agility boosting rig)

The Muninn is an outstanding anti-support ship, with its dual optimal and tracking bonuses. The Sleipnir has neither of these. Why, then, would you fly it over a Muninn, when it costs twice as much besides? There are a few advantages to the Sleipnir over the Muninn. First is effective hp and tanking: The Muninn, even when it sacrifices a mid for a large shield extender, has only 2/3 the hp of a Sleipnir; if fitted purely for sniping it has 1/3 the hp. It also lacks any way to repair itself, whereas the Sleipnir can boost to 100% shields in short order. The Sleipnir also does 35% more DPS than the Muninn, which particularly means that your alpha strike is even nastier. So it functions in some ways as a more durable, shorter range Muninn.

On the other hand, both the lock range and weapon range on the Sleipnir are poor. In this fitting, you can lock to 90km (99 with gang bonuses), which is pretty much your maximum effective range with tremor in any event. However, for anti-support you'll want to use (faction) carbonized lead or nuclear, which have even less range, so you might end up swapping between tremor (to hit cruisers+) and lead (for frigates, inties, vagabonds, and interdictors). Overall, it's a trade-off for firepower and durability in exchange for range, and it can be pretty effective. However, a rail-Astarte outclasses it in pretty much every area.

[edit] Nano Sleipnir (as made famous by Isaac Jordik)

High
7x 425mm Autocannon II
1x Medium Energy Neut II (alternatively a skirmish warfare speed link if you have the skills trained and are planning on flying with gangs a lot, or a cloak if you are a lazy blackops pilot)
Medium
1x 10MN MWD (best named)
1x X-Large CL-5 (best named) Shield Booster II
1x Warp Disruptor II
1x Stasis Webifier II
1x Medium Cap Booster II (800s)
Low
3x Gyrostabilizer II
2x Nanofiber Internal Structure
Drones
3x Vespa EC-600
2x Hornet EC-300
Rigs
2x Projectile Ambit Extension

The speed nerf has reduced the effectiveness of the Sleipnir significantly. In most situations, a Autocane will perform nearly as well and for much less isk.

[edit] The Worthless Jew Special

High
7x 425mm Autocannon II w/ Fusion M
1x Improved Cloaking Device II
Mid
1x 10mn Afterburner II
1x Large Shield Booster II
2x Invulnerability Field II
1x Stasis Webifier II
Low
2x Overdrive Injector System II
3x Gyrostabilizer II
Drones
3x Valkyrie II
2x Warrior II
Rigs
2x Polycarbon Engine Housing

For those of us who put in the time & the isk to fly a nanosleip, only to realize they are not in fact the second coming of Isaac Jordik after repeatedly having their quarter billion isk ship die in a horrible (hilarious) fashion. This setup is something of a rich kid's plaything, but it does have some practical uses. With Tech II medium drones your DPS is approaches that of a torp raven, the tank is weaker, but still quite respectable. The real strength of this setup comes in the combination of firepower, tank, and agility. Battleship class firepower and tank, combined with afterburn speeds and align times that battleship pilots can only dream about will allow you to quickly scamper between belts in crowded systems and rack up bounties while battleship pilots stare at your wrecks and grumble about a lack of rats. This setup is fun on a bun to fly, as you spend most of your time tearassing around at 800-1000m/s tearing the shit out of anything and everything with your autocannons. As an added bonus, the Trinity sleipnir is fucking metal. In short, ratting in a Raven vs ratting in a Sleipnir The only drawback is it's voracious appetite for ammo. Having a GSC or two full of ammunition anchored in your ratting system as well as some well researched medium projectile ammo BPOs back home will serve you quite well if you fly one of thse.
