Moa

|---|---|---|
![]() The Moa was designed as an all-out combat ship, and its heavy armament allows the Moa to tackle almost anything that floats in space. In contrast to it's nemesis the Thorax, Moas are most effective at long ranges where it's railguns and missile batteries can rain death upon foes. | ||

[edit] Overview
In Trinity 1.1, the Moa gained an additional turret slot. It is no longer the shittiest cruiser, and despite grid shortcomings it is now capable of raping face with the best of them. Paired with outstanding shield resist bonuses, you can also fit one hell of a tank on this bitch. Snipe with rails, move in close with antimatter, or pump out almost 500DPS with a Bloa. It makes a mildly effective long-range sniper at the t2 railgun level, but the Ferox outperforms it by a wide margin and is not much harder to train for. If you want to fly a Caldari cruiser, fly either a Blackbird or Caracal.
Don't bother with this ship for PVE, in any case.
The Moa's T2 brother, the Eagle, gets a second range bonus as well as a damage bonus and is far more useful.
[edit] Bonuses
- 10% bonus to Medium Hybrid Turret optimal range per level
- 5% bonus to shield resistance per level

[edit] Sniper Moa
- High
- 5x 250mm Railgun II (with Spike M)
- Mid
- 2x Sensor Booster II
- 2x Tracking Computer II
- Lows
- 1x Reactor Control Unit I
- 3x Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
The Moa got an extra turret but no extra grid, and still has a useless shield resist bonus. This piece of shit is fucking useless at everything, does barely 140 DPS, and the fittings alone cost around 3-4x the price of the hull. Have fun!
[edit] Bait Bloa
- High
- 5x Heavy Electron Blaster II (Null / CN Antimatter)
- 1x Wildcard (Nosferatu, Missile Launcher, Smartbomb, whatever)
or, if you have AWU V and a grid rig/implant:
- 5x Heavy Ion Blaster II (Null / CN Antimatter)
- 1x Wildcard
- Mid
- 1x 10mn Microwarpdrive II
- 1x Warp Scrambler II
- 1x Large Shield Extender II
- 1x Invulnerability Field II
- Lows
- 3x Magnetic Field Stabilizer II
- 1x Damage Control II
- Drones
- 3x Hobgoblin II
- Rigs
- 3x Medium Core Defence Field Extender I
or if using ions
- 2x Medium Core Defence Field Extender I
- 1x Medium Ancillary Current Router I
Looking at the Moa's range bonus you might assume it's a sniper boat, but the grid is absolutely terrible for sniping. The best use of the Moa is to combine the range bonus with Null M and make it a mid-range blaster boat. The blaster Moa isn't as extreme a facehugger as its cousin the Thorax; it can comfortably engage out to the edge of scram range, and can fit a stiff tank to boot. The Thorax using faction Antimatter might have more DPS, but with more EHP and range you'll start doing damage earlier and have a chance of getting away if things go south. The stiff tank and scram combined with general disregard for the Moa makes this an excellent bait ship.
Mix and match the guns based on your fitting skills: Engineering V is good enough for a full rack of electrons, while a full rack of ions will require AWU V and a power implant or the ancillary rig. You want T2 guns (for Null M) to make the build actually work well but everything else aside from the guns can be downgraded to T1 or named as needed. With a missile launcher wildcard and good skills you will be pushing over 300 DPS. If you're not baiting and have a tackler in gang you can toss on a second named invuln instead of the scram, combine this with the rigs and you can push 40K EHP.

[edit] Wormhole Gas Harvester
- High
- 5x Gas Cloud Harvester II (or I if your skill is less than V)
- 1x Core Probe Launcher I
- Mid
- 1x 10MN Afterburner II (or best named preferred)
- 3x Large F-S9 Regolith Shield Induction (best named Large Shield Extenders)
- Lows
- 2x Co-Processor II (or best named as skills permit, needed for shield extenders)
- 1x Warp Core Stabilizer (I keep this on for survivability)
- 1x Expanded Cargohold II (for AFK :effort:)
When you harvest gas clouds, the first step is to find one. After x amount of time that I have yet to determine, eventually some Sleepers will spawn. This can be a few battleships and friends, or only a few cruisers and friends. Regardless, after the Sleepers are dead, the gas you found is yours to be had with no further conflict. This ship is designed to fly with no interference. I only include shield extenders to help with the occasional WTF you did something wrong factor, and flying through hostile space (also why I have a warp core stab).
The Omen is also well regarded as being one of the better cruisers suited to gas cloud harvesting. I prefer the Moa for a few reasons. First being I was already trained to fly Caldari ships, second being the Moa has more mid-slots for further shield expansion, and lastly, the Moa has an extra high slot to fit a probe launcher. Although it has not yet happened to me, I understand there is a chance that the wormhole you came through could close without you knowing, leaving you with no exit unless you probe one out.
I include a cargohold expander simply for the :effort: factor. When harvesting gas you are either trying to solo harvest (and you want the best cargohold space, which is why people like the Omen) or planning to have someone haul your stuff for you. I have an alt to move things, so I could just as easily put an I-stab or otherwise in low slot, but I like looking at my harvester less often. Rigs can further this if you want to put more money into what should be a very inexpensive gas mining ship.
For further information about gas harvesting, please look at Gas Clouds.
