Machariel
Machariel
While its utilitarian look may not give much of an indication, many are convinced that the Machariel is based on an ancient Jovian design uncovered by the Angel Cartel in one of their extensive exploratory raids into uncharted territory some years ago. Whatever the case may be, this behemoth appeared on the scene suddenly and with little fanfare, and has very quickly become one of the Arch Angels' staple war vessels.

Overview

Once the premiere nano-battleship, the Machariel is now little more than a Typhoon/Tempest hybrid with a good base speed. The double coup de grace of the nos and istab nerfs completely eliminated its utility as a solo nanoship, rendering it unable to handle well enough to escape sticky situations while also making it dangerously dependent on cap boosters. In addition, the torpedo nerf removed its ability to deal significant damage while orbiting, reducing it to a glorified bumping platform. The final nail in the coffin was the speed nerf, which reduced the effect of snake implants and reduced all MWDs to T1 speed boosts. The net result of this is that a Machariel is going to top out at maybe 5000 m/s with overheating, snakes, and gang mods.

As an autocannon platform, it is no better than a Tempest with an extra lowslot. It still cannot track well enough to orbit even immobile sub-battleship targets at full speed (450-500m/s with LG Snakes), and its practical DPS output against a tackled target is lackluster compared to even a T2 Cruise Raven.

As of Februar 2010, a built Machariel hull will set you back 750m isk, and a BPC about 650. There is really little reason to fly a Machariel other than the fact that it looks cool, at present, so your money would be better spent elsewhere.
